Switching to Chromium puts Microsoft Edge on par with Google Chrome in terms of functionality, so user adoption and market share are expected to increase. This update, codenamed ‘Project Anaheim’, is a landmark shift for Microsoft, from the EdgeHTML engine to the Chromium engine. Microsoft rolled out the latest version of its Edge browser, Edge 79, on January 15, 2020. Edge remains easy to recommend for people living in the Microsoft ecosystem, but let’s hope Microsoft will listen to users and start slowing down on the bloat in 2023.Microsoft Edge - Chromium Edge Browser 79 It had an 11.17% market share in November 2022, which remains far behind Chrome’s 66.18% share. Microsoft Edge become the second most popular desktop web browser this year according to Statcounter. A new Workspaces feature also allow teammates to share and collaborate on the same group of tabs. The Edge team has also started testing a couple of new features including a built-in VPN powered by Cloudflare. Following a transition to a 4-week release cycle in 2021, Edge received various new features this year: Highlights include a Clarity Boost feature for Xbox Cloud Gaming, support for images and videos in Edge Collections, and a new Edge sidebar providing quick access to Bing,, and other tools. Microsoft Edge 108 will be the last major update for the web browser in 2022. This update also brings new Graph APIs enabling IT pros to manage their site lists for IE mode in the cloud, and there’s also a new policy allowing them to hide the Microsoft 365 app launcher on Edge’s new tab page. Microsoft Edge 108 fixes a Chromium vulnerability ( CVE-2022-4262) that is already being exploited in the wild. This update includes new features for IT pros as well as important security fixes, but there are no new consumer-facing features this month. Microsoft has released yesterday the version 108 of its Edge browser on the Stable channel.
